About Us

Brief History

There has been a Scottish cultural heritage group in Rochester NY since, at least, the 1850s. From the beginning, the organization was erudite, benevolent and forward-thinking. There are records of Burns dinners, cultural promotion and assistance to the less fortunate.

The current Society was incorporated as an IRS certified tax exempt educational group in 1997. It  has a diverse group of members and is guided by a hard-working and dedicated board.

Membership

Our members include Scots and non-Scots alike who have embraced this colorful heritage. Our  desire is to unite and inform interested individuals in the Rochester, NY area of  upcoming events of interest.
       Our 501 (c) (3) approved purposes are:

  • To perpetuate Scottish traditions and culture.
  • To promote the establishment and growth of clan societies and Scottish organizations.
  • To encourage and support Scottish activities.

Events

The Society puts on four larger activities each year.  These include:

  • a formal dinner in January honoring Robert Burns, the famous Scottish Poet.
  • a Tartan Day party in April
  • an informal mid-summer picnic with music and games, and
  • a semi-formal dinner in November honoring Saint Andrew, Scotland’s patron saint

In addition, the Society attends several local Scottish and Celtic cultural events each year for the purpose of outreach.
